All Hands Meet Edition 1 – Editorial Office

Molecular Connections (MC) hosted the first All Hands Meet following its acquisition of Editorial Office (EO), UK and the air crackled with excitement (and maybe a little bit of nervous energy) as members from leadership teams gathered virtually for the meeting. The session was an all-out fun affair led by Krishna, VP of Business Development and Marketing. Krishna introduced the MC family to the members from EOL with her familiarly warm disposition –  after all, when two companies join forces, it’s not just about merging spreadsheets and strategies; it’s about bringing people together.

The stage was set, and in came the introductions. The merry bunch from EO resonated with MC’s leadership, and things kicked off to a great start. Alice Ellingham and Gill Smith, the co-founders of EO, began the introductions in their new roles as VPs of Editorial Services, initiating a series of ‘tag’ – where the person nominated to speak next would follow. The baton went across all the virtual room, completing the official acquaintance.

The process was full of fun facts about everyone in the leadership team, which made for a splendid ice breaker season.

Krishna followed the introduction with a quick overview of MC’s inception, highlighting the presence of the leadership members in the company for more than two decades – a stunning feat in itself!

Addressing the Elephant in the Virtual Room

Acquisitions can feel like navigating a maze blindfolded. Usually, there are whispers in the hallways, anxieties about the unknown, and a whole lot of “Wait, what happens now?” moments. Jignesh, armed with his trademark candor and a healthy dose of humor, addressed this head-on, quickly turning potential anxieties into shared excitement.

Among the many important questions on everyone’s mind were, “Are we getting a new name, or are we just adding an extra word to the logo and calling it a day?” Jignesh put the speculation to rest, outlining the importance of making only necessary changes to streamline operations that reflect the combined strengths of both organizations. Leaving no room for speculations, Jignesh added – “There won’t be any rebranding or a drastic change in our identities, but we will work to unite EO’s editorial services prowess with MC’s technology development fluency to create transformative technologies which publishers can’t ignore”.

Then came the big questions about the big picture, one of which was “What’s the official company vision – world domination, or just business as usual, but bigger’?  “World domination is definitely on the agenda”, Jignesh clarified with a sense of amusement in his voice, “But the real vision is to tap into the immense potential of the editorial services market by eliminating logistical issues and combining our strengths”. Jignesh addressed how MC is accelerating towards a ‘global company’ status with a presence already in over six countries working towards the company’s vision.

Jignesh went on to address concerns about job security and directly reassured everyone that it would be “business as usual,” with no changes. He emphasized that the focus was on growth and expansion, which would create new opportunities and ensure long-term stability.

Looking to the future, Jignesh highlighted the numerous opportunities for upselling and cross-selling. He emphasized the company’s strong foundation in machine learning and AI technology for research integrity, citing examples such as automated plagiarism detection, and AI powered manuscript screening. These technologies, he explained, allow the company to provide greater value to its customers. For example, by combining EO’s author services with MC’s data visualization tools, a wider range of services are possible.

“Prepare for a new era in scholarly publication,” Jignesh concluded. “We will continue to be at the forefront, we’ll continue to innovate, add new products and services, creating a strong competitive advantage for us.” The combined strengths of MC and EO positions the company for significant growth and innovation in the scholarly publishing solutions domain.

The End of a Brilliant New Session With a Great Vision for the Future

As the town hall drew to a close, it was evident that the acquisition had ignited a powerful synergy. The convergence of MC’s technological innovation, particularly in AI-driven solutions for research integrity, and EO’s profound editorial expertise, notably in author services, creates a unique and compelling value proposition. This combination, coupled with our shared vision to revolutionize scholarly publishing, has replaced any lingering uncertainty with genuine excitement for the future.

This acquisition has transformed both entities into a dynamic hub of opportunity. Employees can look forward to enhanced professional development, cross-cultural collaboration, and the chance to contribute to the development of cutting-edge technologies and services. For example, the integrated AI-powered manuscript screening and data visualization tools, combined with expert editorial support, will enable us to deliver a broader and more impactful range of solutions to our clients.

At Molecular Connections, we are committed to building a cohesive global community, a team of passionate individuals united in our pursuit of market leadership within the scholarly publishing solutions domain. We encourage active participation and open communication. We look forward to embarking on this transformative journey together and will continue to provide updates as we progress.
