Bangalore, India, February 22, 2012–(PR.com)– Molecular Connections today announced a new collaborative Partnership to develop a “Ureome Database” with the NIH National Cancer Institute. Scientists at Molecular Connections and researchers in the Radiation Oncology Branch at National Cancer Institute will work together to develop this new resource which is hoped to be a valuable reference site for studies in oncology and other allied fields.

Due to its ease of collection, relative stability and potential to provide information about disease physiology, urine plays a key role in clinical diagnostics. The recent surge in research to pan this bodily fluid for biomarkers prompted scientists to establish a database that identifies the proteins that are excreted into the urine of cancer patients and healthy controls. In doing so scientists hope that, access to clinically applicable information will aid in the early detection of various cancers as well as elucidate novel signaling pathways.

Ureome database project aims to create a validation database of kidney and urine proteome analysis by expression and tissue localization of proteins in normal v/s disease conditions, construct integrated databases of human kidney and urine proteomes employing various mechanisms and technologies/platforms. The resource will be available worldwide with open access to all researchers.

“We at Molecular Connections are pleased that NCI chose to collaborate with us for this initiative. Biomarker research is increasing at a rapid pace and the database is designed to help researchers keep pace with ever increasing & latest data. We hope that our informatics support to Ureome database will help to catalogue and evaluate the usefulness of biomarkers relevant to Oncology studies,” said Jignesh Bhate, CEO at Molecular Connections.
